This is a comparison of the Sony a5100 and the iPhone 7 plus. This is a video test only. Both phone and camera are in automatic mode. I realize I could get better video in manual mode as the A5100 looks a little over exposed. In medium to low light this camera takes exultant video! This test was done with the kit lens. The quality would be even better with a better lens.
The Sony A5100 was using the xcvc s format at 60P. The iPhone 7 plus was also in 60p. The Sony never over heated. I also almost never record over 9 minutes in length anyway.
Side note: The Sony hx-80 over heated on me once in direct sunlight at around the 15 min mark. For what its worth…

@OUTDOORS55 between top iphone / Huawei Camera Phone and A5100 which makes better photos and video quality?
Does it have clean HDMI output? I need a cam to make 1h streams and 20 min recording my drums. Is overheating a problem? What other cameras would you recommend me? Thanks
iphone 7 plus colors more concentrated :)))) I wonder if the iphone did this job well
I bought the a5100 camera last year, vivid colors, i like your outdoor video & the "Beverly Hillbillys" music! Did you see a possum or a polecat?
I like this test it was so real. thank you.
fact that the iphone looks better for video put me off this camera lol..landscapes look good just the upclose face stuff looks bad.
What video editing did you use..? Thanks brother, great video..!
lol iphone seems much better tbh
HuaWei P30 beats Sony A5100 in EVERY category
exept Price and Flash.
Night mode is totally hands down to the HuaWei.
Sony flash is soooo natural you have to look twice to see if it was on.
Braah you look like Daniel Bryan!!!
what's the gear are you using for the audio? and a stabilizer?
Too bad it doen`t have an input for a mike. The picture is well enough to use it for filming.
You the real mvp
A turkey that’s Bigfoot
Where are you in this video?
great review here but i have some question about stabilization. did u use any kind of aditional video stabilization at all? like gimbal or at post production.
and i have request if you have spare time to do low light video samples with this sony a5100.
and thank you very much, kind sir.
the deal breaker between phone and camera is the ability to film at night
2:56 Skyrim New Game
great video, but what should i buy samsung samsung s8 or a5100? the only reason why i am not into a5100 is that , as you mentioned , it heats up pretty fast , and shuts down in around 25 minutes. Do you face tht issue all the time? should i go for s8 . My main purpose is to film indoors, like a reaction video, stuff like tht…
Damn, what a beautiful place to live, awesome
I have the a5100 and my videos are not always clear. What settings do you use?
It looked really good but how do I keep my quality as good as this once I upload it to YouTube ?? I feel like my vids are trash once uploaded definitely not as good as when I’m editing or filming
Very nice video, I liked especially like the banjo music starting at 2:50 , it goes good with the scenery shown 🙂
On which mode sony a 5100 overheat ?
1. Xav ?
2. Full HD ?
3. Photography?
sry guys but…. are u blind? if i turn on to 1080p i can see that the iphone is much sharper then this sony camera…
when you were filming while walking the image looks to be moving too much. does it have an image
stabilizer. 1:37 – 2:33
Hey I thought your sound quality was actually quite good, what was your set up? The general consensus I got from people reviewing this camera was external mic, but you didn't look to wearing a mic attached to your clothes
Mind sharing where that hike is? I'm somewhat local (south PA) and it looks like a neat little hike
Beautiful woods! Where was this shot?
Nice video! I’m still trying to decide what camera I’d like to purchase. The Sony a5100 is one of my top choices, but I feel like I’ll never be able to decide what I want because there are so many choices 😕 My main reason for purchasing a camera would be for photos. The subject would be standing still.. Is this a camera that would be a good choice for those uses? I would most likely be doing very minimal video usage so the overheating problem wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me. I’d love to get some input from someone who knows about cameras lol
Did you keep the A5100?
Thank you the the video. Btw, i think i prefer a5100 due to its fast auto focus and tracking auto focus is amazing. But, it can not do slow motion (well it can but only 50/60 fps). But in the end, the vision is number one, not the camera.
Hey! You're wearing Salomon Speedcross 3's (3:46)! Thumbs up by virtue of the most excellent foot wear.
The iphone looks so yellow like usual…. Nasty
Check out my updated review 😀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_kM0ib9qFg
Awesome review! I just bought the camera and the quality of filming is so clear and crisp in your post I can't wait to use mine!
santiang bana review angku mah
There's not much of a color on a5100
Would you say that the Iphone 7plus camera would "do the job" for a beginner on short films or would you say that isn't enough and better get the a5100?
Thanks in advance man.
''i'm looking kinda funny, it's just….. cause that's how i look'' lol thumbs up, nice video.
Seems like all sonys have a overheating issue. Great review/ comparison.
Sony does make some nice products….Overheating is also common with the Go Pro Hero 5 in high resolution and on long continuous shots.
